We are excited to be taking part in London Hat Week again in 2020 and will be offering the following millinery workshops for experienced and novice milliners. Our workshops are taught by experienced milliners from the Jane Taylor Team and they do tend to get snapped up so please get in touch soon. They also make great gifts.

Trimming with Crin: Jane Taylor London

LEARN THE ART OF WORKING WITH CRIN IN DIFFERENT WAYS TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL TRIMS OR A VISOR FOR COCKTAIL HATS.

 

You will be taught how to work with pleated crin, draping crin, as well as how to layer and distress. During the workshop you will choose a method to design and create for a cocktail hat.

 

This event is designed to grow your ability in trimming a hat with confidence. As a popular choice of material within millinery working with crin is a key skill for any aspiring or experienced milliner to have. This is a full day workshop, and you will have a completed piece by the end.

 

 

You will need to bring apron, thimble and hat box, as well as a cocktail hat base in your chosen material. Materials, including crin, can be purchased on the day from Jane Taylor stock as well as a hat box.

 

 

There will be a lunch break, please bring your lunch. Tea and cake will be enjoyed during the afternoon (please inform the team of any allergies or dietary requirements in advance).

Luxury Vintage Cocktail Hat: Jane Taylor London

Love vintage style and materials? This workshop is bursting with vintage inspiration.

 

Designed to incorporate teaching of basic millinery skills, such as blocking, wiring and trimming.

 

The workshop will focus on the use of vintage materials to create a luxury cocktail hat.

 

Our vast collection of vintage materials will be available for students to choose and purchase on the day to use to trim piece. Students will learn how to use antique materials and fabrics in a delicate way, to create a luxury vintage inspired piece. These will include Victorian veiling, beautiful feathers, lace, ribbons and other trims.

 

 

Please bring your chosen straw to block your base. Please also bring your own hat box. Alternatively, hat boxes will be available to purchase on the day.

Fabric Covered Bases & Free Form Draping: Jane Taylor London

Learn how to drape material in a delicate, free formed way as well as covering a cocktail hat using traditional techniques.

 

Draping fabrics is an essential skill for a milliner to learn and perfect in order to create beautiful fabric covered hats. This workshop will teach students how to select suitable fabrics and effectively cover a cocktail hat base. This method can then be used for crowns, brims and draped trims on larger pieces. Students will also learn how to drape material in a delicate free formed way to create an elegant finish.

 

There’s a skill in choosing the right fabric for draping, it may be preferred for students to choose and purchase from selection available on the day with the assistance of the team. You’re of course welcome to bring your own if you’re confident in it’s suitability, ensure it has a good movement and a little give. Bring with you a cocktail hat base to cover as well as an apron, thimble and hat box.

Cover & Trim a Moon Headband: Jane Taylor London

LEARN TO COVER AND TRIM A JANE TAYLOR LONDON MOON SHAPED HEADBAND.

 

Covering and trimming is an essential skill to learn, and what better shape to be taught with than the one worn by a member of the Royal Family. Learn how to select suitable fabric and cover the band. Once covered, learn how to correctly attach trimming whilst thinking about creating a flattering design for the wearer’s face.

 

There’s a skill in choosing the right fabric for draping, it may be preferred for students to choose and purchase from selection available on the day with the assistance of the team.
